What is Neck Pain?

Neck Pain
Neck pain refers to discomfort or pain in the cervical spine area, which can impact movement, posture, and quality of life. It is often caused by muscle strain, poor posture, or underlying conditions affecting the spine's structures. Neck pain can range from mild stiffness to severe pain that radiates to the shoulders and arms, limiting daily activities.

Causes
Common causes of neck pain include muscle strains from prolonged computer use, awkward sleeping positions, sudden movements, and stress. Other factors include cervical disc degeneration, herniated discs, arthritis, and conditions like cervical spondylosis. Accidents or injuries like whiplash can also lead to neck pain.

Symptoms
Symptoms include stiffness, sharp or dull pain in the neck, difficulty moving the head, and headaches. Severe cases may present with pain radiating down the arms, tingling or numbness in the hands, and muscle weakness. Chronic neck pain can cause reduced range of motion and impact posture.

Treatment
Treatments for neck pain include rest, physical therapy, gentle stretching exercises, and over-the-counter pain relievers. Ice or heat packs can reduce inflammation and stiffness. For persistent pain, steroid injections, chiropractic adjustments, or surgery may be recommended. Practicing good posture and using ergonomic furniture can help prevent future neck pain.
